Dio Oakley
Dio Oakley is a fiery and bright personality with passion just as intense for music performance and outreach. Having nothing else but informal church choir under their musical belt, Dio became deeply enamored with the viola and classical music at the age of 14. This was when they began taking lessons with members of the Haven String Quartet of Music Haven, and they haven’t stopped playing since. During his short four years at Music Haven, Dio quickly rose to be a promising violist, being qualified enough to partake in the Southern Regionals Festival after only three years of playing. In addition to this he also fostered connections with many summer music camps and organizations in the state such as Laurel Music Camp, the Greater New Haven Youth Orchestra, and the New Haven Chamber Orchestra.
Following their time in Music haven Dio went on to study Viola at Western Connecticut State University when they worked with talented musicians like Hafez Taghavi and Belinda Whitney. During their time here he gained many prestigious musical accolades, among them being an international festival they attended with fellow quartet member Jules Chetcuti: the InterHarmony international Music Festival. Soon after this experience both Dio and Jules decided to form their own consistent music group and share their passions for education, outreach, and accessibility with their community, and thus the Legacy String Quartet was born.
These days, in addition to performing with the quartet Dio spends their time as an IT Technician for Stratford High School. They also continue to play with both the WCSU Orchestra and the New Haven Chamber Orchestra in their spare time. Outside of music Dio enjoys board games, being at home, biking, and animation.
